Most bookmarked in this forum. Mobile site. With the manual for the RX White is clear, logical and offers wonderful "screen shots", to clarify his material. This camera is very sophisticated and has many sub menus. With the author's expertise, I had a confidence just knowing the "answer was there", which then led to progressing quickly into shooting and not spending a lot of time trying to figure it out.
Another note to you. The manual is very extensive and with the screenshots is a must. A couple of months ago, I was in a National Park at night, with a group of photographers, I had a glitch nothing serious I just didn't know how to "un-glitch the camera". So I had to trudge back to the car not close , at night and pull out the physical manual to find the solution and quickly unglitched my Sony.
Then I had to trudge back and readjust to the night. The digital version would have saved time and I could have used "find" to locate my issue faster.
YES, I did purchase and download the next day I was home. So, stop reading this and just purchase it. You will be glad for doing so. Wish I could give this instruction manual more than 5 stars. I have been into photography for almost 40 years now.
Have shot a great amount of weddings, pets, family reunions and at one time was shooting next to Sports Illustrated photographers at one of the triple crown races in Kentucky. I read about Sony RX10iv in outdoor photography and did a ton of research on bridge cameras. I decided to purchase the RX10iv and because of the price chose to buy off of ebay.
Since the small instruction pamphlet that comes with the camera is useless I chose to purchase an aftermarket book. There is a manual from Sony but you would have to print over pages or use a computer all of the time. When I saw this manual and a picture of the author I went back to ebay and found his picture on the same camera that I purchased.
The camera was like brand new. I read all of the reviews on this manual and all were positive. One reviewer gave a negative commented on the paper quality. I have no idea what he was talking about. The pages are just fine. Others said that the book was almost too detailed. My take is Mr. White wrote this for anyone starting out in photography. He explains everything very well.
There are over pages of instructions. He explains in detail all of the features in this camera. Best written instruction manual I have ever seen. The author has obviously spent some time with the Sony RX10 IV, and applies his deep knowledge of many types of photography to its many settings and menus.
He includes many examples of situations where a certain setting may be useful, and offers his opinion of those settings that may not be used much by the average photographer. Step by step and menu by menu, he introduces the many functions and uses, and cross references with other parts of the guide. This is an indispensable guide to this fantastic camera.
I downloaded it to my iphone so I can refer to it in the field. Highly recommended over the factory lack of user guide. Mayo on November 25, Images in this review. Bennett E. Werner Top Contributor: Photography. If you own this camera, the guide is a "must have". It's not the most exciting read, but it's critical for understanding all of the nuances of the camera.
White is systematic in his description and even includes his own favorite settings which I really appreciate. The Index is extensive, thus one can go back and re-discover information as new issues surface or re-surface. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries.
The RX10 IV is probably one of the best cameras you can buy at the moment. Unfortunately the manual that comes with it is probably one of the worst ever written. As with so many technically advanced products, the documentation is simply a recital of the technical specification. In this case in tedious detail, over about pages.
The person who wrote it clearly knows everything there is to know about the camera, it's buttons and settings. What is missing is any guidance on using this splendid camera to take pictures. Alexander White has specialised, over a number of years, in filling the user manual hole left by a number of manufacturers.
And he does it pretty well. His language is clear and comprehensible but I could do without being referred frequently to other sections. This is particularly annoying as I have the Kindle version and it would be much more convenient to have all the required information in one place, rather than searching to and fro for it.
Apart from that it is a very useful user guide. Generally I prefer the printed versions of this type of book but they are getting too expensive. Hence four stars instead of five. This book is simply brilliant. From the basics to the advanced it is written in an easy, understandable style. It is a guide, a manual and a reference.
The author talks to you, explaining what all the features are of course but most importantly adding real value by giving tips and advice on how to use and how the features work together.
He builds from what is most important to consider to get started quickly enabling you to produce good pictures and videos but then gradually helping you get the most from the device. Given that the camera is a very costly piece of kit why would you not spend the small sum on this book to get the best from it. The author assumes some knowledge of cameras and photographic technical terms which is right given that it is unlikely that a real novice would buy this camera.
However he explains the terms properly without talking down to you or treating you as an expert. I like the way you can read through a section getting the whole story as it were but you can also dip in to a particular feature and get help without having to flick back and forth. I would though like the screen shots to be rather larger, indeed about twice the size to be of the most benefit. Based on this book, if you have another camera for which he has produced a guide then I would expect it to be equally as good.
There is no doubt that the Sony RX10iv is an amazing camera; neither can it be denied that it is complicated and packed full of features. Plenty of people have bought the camera and then failed to get the best out of it due to not having a clear idea of what it can do.
I already owned an RX10, but to get the best out of my new camera I thought it advisable to buy this book. The book is a small fraction of the camera's price, but it is incredibly valuable when it comes to fathoming out this complex beast. Everything is explained very clearly, much more so than Sony's own manual. The photos are plentiful and clear. The only downside is the size; it means that you are not going to take it with you on a shoot. This is a huge tome but almost essential for this camera.
No instructions are provided with the camera and the only downloadable instructions are the very basic ones describing the buttons. Their online instructions are OK but very inconvenient to use. I found this very helpful, being laid out logically and with sensible advice on using the different menus and setting for different situations. The only downside is it's not very portable!
In selecting my new Camera I read online reviews and decided the Sony RX 10 iv looked to be the best option for me. My only concern was the complex menu system meaning I would struggle to understand the features and produce good photos.
